Gunn was born in Cleveland Ohio but moved at young age to brought up in Santa Fe New Mexico the daughter of Sharon Anna Kathryn Shana Gunn an interior designer and Clemens Earl Gunn Jr. who was a the real estate industry. Santa Fe Preparatory School, where she graduated in 1986. She studied theatre with Northwestern University and graduated with her degree in 1990. Gunn studied abroad at the British American Drama Academy during the fall of 1988. She stayed in the same house as Pamela Adlon after moving to Laurel Canyon Los Angeles. Gunn was most well-known for her character Skyler in AMC's Breaking drama. she was nominated for the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for her performance winning in 2013 and 2014. In August 2013 she wrote an op-ed piece for The New York Times examining her public displeasure towards her portrayal.
